What is a Pet Emergency?

Pets cannot communicate when they require medical assistance! In fact, a pet may often go off on its own or become withdrawn when feeling unwell.

Any situation that concerns you about your pet's health should be considered an emergency and you should contact a veterinarian.

Examples of Pet Emergencies;

Trauma including:

  • Being hit by a car
  • Animal bites
  • Burn injury
  • Trouble breathing
  • Trouble urinating or defecating
  • Persistent or severe vomiting or diarrhea
  • Any situation where your pet appears nervous, apprehensive, or is experiencing discomfort may indicate that your pet is in pain or experiencing a medical problem

At all times, try to remain calm and speak gently and reassuringly to your pet.

Do not administer human medications to your pet unless advised to do so by your veterinarian. Some medications can be very toxic to your pet, and may cause serious or life thretening harm.
